A new location bar for Firefox: try a prototype.

Dão Gottwald created Locationbar2, a Firefox extension that mostly implements the features described in my previous journal entry and many, many more. The missing piece was the determination of the "effective top-level domain", so i added that piece (using Mozilla's current list). Then all i had to do was tweak the preferences to make it behave the way i described.

If you have Firefox 1.5 or newer, you can try out this improved location bar by downloading my modified version of Locationbar2. Installing it will give you a feel for what i'm talking about. I'm finding it quite comfortable and pleasant so far.
