Subject:Howard Dean speaks.

This afternoon i saw Howard Dean speak at a rally against propositions 74, 75, and 76 at the United Food and Commercial Workers Union in Hayward. He made it very clear that this special election would be about defeating Arnold. In addition to declaring that "a governor who beats up on teachers and nurses has no business being the governor of California", he reiterated the need for honesty in government, a balanced budget, and universal health care. He also used a particular turn of phrase to refer to the trouble that Rove, DeLay, and Frist have gotten themselves into: the "culture of corruption" in the Republican party. Sounds like an effective antidote to the "culture of life" rhetoric that Bush keeps abusing.

There was plenty of cheering and lots of enthusiasm from the crowd of Democrats who attended.

Predictably, Dean was mobbed as soon as he left the podium.Collapse )
