These translated Star Wars subtitles are pretty hilarious.

On Friday some friends and i enjoyed watching darcydodo perform in a production of The Gondoliers, a fun and silly Gilbert and Sullivan operetta. That would make the second of two shows i've gone to see on Friday nights; the previous week it was The Grand Inquisitor at the Berkeley City Club.
Saturday i entered the BANG 11 puzzle hunt with team Get on a Raft With Taft. ( See some pictures of the event.Collapse )
As i was proofreading the final draft of my chapter of the O'Reilly book, i kept running across certain sentences and thinking to myself, "That doesn't look right. I don't think i would have written something like that." Finally i went back to compare it to my submitted draft. Sure enough, the editor has gone through the chapter and replaced all my attempts to use the singular gender-neutral "they" and "their" with masculine pronouns "he" and "his", etc. Even "he or she" was replaced everywhere by "he". Sigh.

I'll ask for a correction, but i don't have high hopes since we've already been through a couple of rounds and we're really on the final final draft.
If you're going to cold-e-mail me, please (a) don't make it look like spam and (b) try to spell my name correctly. For better or worse, it's all over the Web. I think you folks do something related to that.
