Deliberative polling.

I'm listening to James Fishkin speak about deliberative polling, a process of engaging groups of citizens in dialogue to find out what public opinion would be if the public were more informed about an issue. The deliberative polling process has had quite a few successes and sounds like a very promising idea. (There's more than just talking about it — the process includes a number of mechanisms to establish its own transparency and legitimacy.)

I find myself feeling some optimism about politics after hearing about this, which is refreshing and unusual of late.
