Why this primary matters.
Larry Lessig explains the significance of tomorrow's primary.

I would go further; i think there are real policy differences between Obama and Clinton that matter, and that weigh decisively in favour of Obama (technology policy, for example). But i can't vote in this election, so i'll just share Lessig's video with you. Now is not the time to be afraid. Now is the time to reach for new hope.

We can't vote either, but it's been great to see such a good primary. We've lined up behind Clinton after reading her and Obama's policy papers on health care and foreign policy. Obama can't compare with her in either of these fields-- he doesn't show much substance, and where he does its speculative rather than rooted in any understanding of realpolitik. I haven't looked at either of their technology policies. I admit, however, that beyond the primary, Obama will show a sharper contrast to McCain, and would be able to play cards that Clinton couldn't (youthfulness, not being part of a dynasty, and his stance on the war). So that would favour the final outcome for the Democrats.

Either way, it's great to be spoiled for choice, for once. Even if it's not a choice we get to make.

Beautiful. Thank you for linking this. I saw it on his blog and didn't click through. I saw it on yours and did. I have already made up my mind to vote for Obama, but watched this anyway.

Thanks, Ping. I'm having a tough time deciding what to do (a evidenced by the fact that it's almost 11 AM and I'm still working things through), and I appreciate hearing thoughtful commentary about this choice.

Thanks for posting the link, I hadn't seen that, it's interesting.

I think I disagree with Lessig in a fundamental way (haven't finished entire video yet). Integrity is a virtue for the individual, but I'm not so sure integrity in politicians is a good thing for the governed. Integrity of a politician means they value their own principles more than the majority opinion. The majority might be wrong, but politicians might be wrong, too. I only value integrity in politicians whose basic systems of reasoning I agree with. I think Obama does indeed have more integrity than Clinton, but I'm not sure that's good because I have some fundamental disagreements with him (which is not to say I like Clinton!)

Ping -
you are leaning in favor of Obama because of policy differences.
you didn't mention healthcare -
I would be interested to see what you and others think of this.

Thanks for posting the link. Very interesting thesis and I have improved the articulation as to why I think Clinton II is a bad idea.

I can't vote in this primary either, but not for the same reason as everyone else :-)
