The Million Dollar Blog Post.
Visit gifter.org and make a wish. For every wish posted, $1 will be donated to charity, for up to a million wishes.

This might sound made up, but it's real. I know the person who started it. And i like the basic idea: it's the first of a series of social experiments in gift giving, intended to figure out how to direct the power of Internet mobs and fads (like the million-pixel advertising page) toward social good. Think of it as an experiment, think of it as a donation, think of it as a survey.

Head over there and make a wish. Then spread the word and see how big this idea can grow.

What a wonderful thing! Thanks for sharing. I've made a wish and will be posting a notice on this to a couple websites.

I'm curious, if you can say, whose generosity is behind this project?

There's more information on the site that explains the idea and how it works. The donations come from people who sign up on the site to sponsor wishes. The instigator i'm referring to is Austin Hill, one of the founders of Zero Knowledge, who spoke at the SOUPS 2006 conference in Pittsburgh.
